Reprezentantul casei de discuri a lui Chris Liebing (CLR) vine la Delahoya 2009
What`s your credo?
Nu sunt prea multi dji de acest gen. Dji care au crezut in techno inca din prima clipa, care au intrat in contact cu acest fenomen inca de la inceput, dji care au facut din techno un element definitoriu al carierei lor. Dji care si-au creat un stil propriu si inconfundabil de-a lungul timpului, dji ai caror nume este sinonim cu un anumit sound. Alex Bau este unul dintre ei. Dar in acelasi timp, exista anumite particularitati specifice lui…
De ce sa te concentrezi pe un singur stil? De ce numai sound-ul minimal? De ce numai techno? De ce? Cand le poti avea pe amandoua… Poate fi acest lucru corelat si de faptul ca a existat ceva inaintea techno-ului pentru Alex Bau? Colectia sa cuprinde mii de vinyluri, multa muzica si stiluri diferite, care cu siguranta si-au pus amprenta asupra sa. Inca ii plac serile "Depeche Mode" pe care le face din cand in cand, just for fun, fara ca activitatile sale legate de techno sa sufere, ba chiar din contra!
Inca de la primul sau set de vreo 5 ore, sau poate chiar mai lung, de la primul sau club unde a mixat ca resident, "Libella", situat in zona sa natala din sud estul Bavariei - club in care spre exemplu si-a inceput cariera si DJ Hell la sfarsitul anilor '80 - si-a creat o reputatie de om implicat si dedicat trup si suflet pasiunii sale. Timp de mai mult de 2 ani a avut propria sa emisiune la un post de radio local, care a ramas si pana in zilele noastre singurul technoshow realizat vreodata in aceea zona, insa dupa nenumarate gig-uri la cluburile locale, a venit vremea sa demonstreze ca este capabil sa mixeze oriunde.
Poductiile sale, realizate impreuna cu bunul sau prieten Sven Dedek, sub numele de "Basic Implant" si "Basic Electric Envoy" care au aparut prima data la tanarul label al lui Chris Liebing, "Fine Audio Recordings", au avut un impact deosebit pe scena muzicii electronice si i-au permis lui Alex sa dobandeasca experienta internationala in spatele pupitrului, in timp ce Sven se ocupa de partea live. Release-uri ca "Phase Edit EP", un re-work al unor piese clasice precum Nitzer Ebb EBM, foarte bine primite de public si bine vandute, precum si materialele realizate pentru "Rotation"-ul lui Dave Angel, "Predicaments"-ul lui Justin Berkovi sau label-ul lui Pascal FEOS, "PV-Records", le-au garantat celor doi o expunere in fata unui public tot mai numeros. Dupa numeroase release-uri la diferite label-uri, precum si la propria sa casa de discuri - "Toneman", Alex si-a lansat la finele lui 2004 albumul sau de debut, "Connected", un album care a atras imediat atentia mai multor Dj de renume mondial ca si Chris Liebing, Pascal FEOS sau Good Groove - ca sa amintim doar cativa. Faptul ca acesti artisti, fiecare avand un stil unic - diferit unul fata de celalalt - au folosit constant piese de pe "Connected" in show-urile lor este o dovada clara ca alegerea numelui albumului a fost una foarte potrivita…
Odata cu infiintarea propriului label, "Toneman", in anul 2000 Alex Bau si-a inceput si cariera solo de producator. Muzica sa a aparut in afara de "Toneman" si la label-uri ca "CLR"-ul lui Chris Liebing sau label-ul din Montreal, "Default Recordings". Montreal-ul poate fi inteles ca o etapa in evolutia lui Alex ca dj.
In decurs de 3 ani, a fost invitat de 4 ori sa mixeze la Montreal, iar setul sau de la "Aria" din ianuarie 2006, ajuns legendar, a aparut ulterior sub forma unui mix-cd "live at Aria / Montreal", asa ca Alex s-a intors dupa cateva luni in Canada pentru releaseparty, o noapte care s-a dovedit de neuitat pentru miscarea techno din Montreal. Atunci, Alex a fost si cap de afis, o decizie care s-a dovedit sa fie foarte inspirata si chiar aclamata de public. Poate si ca un mic "multumesc" pentru noaptea memorabila petrecuta in Halifax, in timpul zborului sau inapoi spre Europa, el a declarat ca urmatorul sau EP se va numi "C.A.N.A.D.A." - acesta fiind lansat la sfarsitul lui 2007 la "CLR". EP-ul a primit un feedback covarsitor si pozitiv din toate colturile lumii, oamenii descriind piesele "Summer in Moncton" si "Halifax Funk" ca fiind adevarate capodopere ale muzicii techno contemporane, detasandu-se clar de restul release-urilor ale vremii, in principal minimal, click-uri si cut-uri.
Dar Alex nu este invitat permanent numai la Montreal, semn ca este un tip care intelege ce trebuie sa faca atunci cand se afla in fata unei multimi, incercand s-o duca spre apogeul extazului.
Cluburi ca "U60311" din Frankfurt, unde printre altele a luat parte si la closing-ul legendarei serii de partyuri "Es ist Freitagaaabend" realizate de Chris Liebing, "Electric Delicate" din Munchen, "Airport" - Würzburg, sau legendaul "Tresor" Berlin, nu sunt singurele trademark-uri ale culturii techno germane care pot fi gasite pe lista de gig-uri a lui Alex Bau. Japonia, Braila, USA, Canada, Polonia, Croatia, Serbia, Olanda sau mai apropiatele Austria si Elvetia sunt doar cateva din tourstop-urile constante de pe calendarul lui Alex, iar peste tot oamenii pot auzi si simti cat de interesant si puternic este techno-ul daca intelegi sa-l combini minimal-ul si techno-ul pur, cu constante suisuri si coborasuri. A avea intotdeauna totul sub control in timp ce lumea se dezlantuie, este unul din devizele si obiectivele lui Alex, aspect simtit si de public se pare - Alex fiind votat intre cei mai buni 20 de dji germani in 2006 de revista nr.1 din Germania, Raveline.
Dupa un scurt intermezzo ca unul din artistii oficiali al faimosul label "Zenit" - o rampa de lansare pentru artisti ca Marco Carola, Adam Beyer, The Advent, Gaetano Parisio si multi multi altii, Alex se concentreaza din nou la propriile sale platforme, fapt evidentiat prin release-ul ultimului sau album, "Credo", ca un sublabel in cadrul Zenit, la care isi lanseaza in exclusivitate propriile sale productii. Release-uri ca "My bleepy helloween" sau "Bullet in your heart", demonstrand inca odata ca piesele minimal se pot imbina perfect cu peaktime slammers, intr-un mod evident si logic. Muzica de la "Credo" atrage foarte multi dintre colegii lui Alex, precum Chris Liebing, Dubfire, Adam Beyer, Stephan Bodzin sau Charles Siegling aka Technasia - care l-a si invitat pe Alex sa se alature casei de discuri de renume mondial - Sino-Label - la sfarsitul lui 2008, atat pentru viitoare release-uri cat si pentru booking-uri. Feedback-ul pozitiv pentru muzica lui Alex creste constant, dovedindu-se a fi unul din cei mai apreciati producatori de techno din 2008, decizia sa de a pune accentual pe calitate in detrimental cantitatii in cea ce priveste viitoarele sale release-uri la CLR, Sino si Credo vorbesc de la sine.

There are not many DJ`s of this type. DJ`s who believed in Techno from the first
minute, DJ`s who experienced Techno from the very beginning, DJ`s who made techno
their own thing. DJ`s who found their own style, even more, who developped it over
the years, Dj`s who`s name is the expression for a specific sound. Alex Bau is one of
them. But at the same time, there are some slight differences with this guy. Why
focussing on just one style of music? Why only minimal sounds? Why only Techno?
Why? If cou can have both…
Is it related to the fact that there has been a time before Techno for Alex Bau?
Thousands of records in his collection, different styles, different music, for sure
something that leaves its marks, no doubt about it. Still he is doing Depeche Mode-
Nights from time to time, just for fun, and his activities on Techno doesn`t really suffer
from that, not at all! With his 5 or even more hours sets at his first resident club in his
southeastbavarian homearea, the „Libella“, where for example also DJ Hell started his
career back in the 80ies, he achieved the reputation as somebody who is totally aware
of what he is doing, totally dedicated to it and also totally loving it. He had his own
radioshow for over 2 years on a local radiostation, still so far the only technoshow in
this area, but after countless gigs at the local clubs time was right to proof that he is
also able to play at other places all around. Especially the productions together with his
friend Sven Dedek, mainly released under their moniker „Basic Implant“ or „Electric
Envoy“ on labels like the at this time starting „Fine Audio Recordings“ from Chris
Liebing have hit the technofloors in a very impressive way, so that he was able to
collect also international experiences behind the decks while Sven was playing live.
Releases like the „Phase Edit EP“, a highly acclaimed and well sold rework of some
Nitzer Ebb EBM Classics, or their work for Dave Angel`s "Rotation", Justin Berkovi`s
"Predicaments" or Pascal FEOS` "PV-Records" enabled the guys to reach a much bigger
audience. Finally, after numerous releases for different labels beside his own label
“Toneman”, Alex released his debut-album “Connected” in late 2004, which
immediately draw the attention of many high class DJ`s like Chris Liebing, Pascal FEOS
or Good Groove to name just a few. The fact that these artists, all standing for a
different kind of style, grabbed the tracks from “Connected” constantly shows that the
name of the album couldn`t have been chosen in a better way.
With starting his own label „Toneman“ back in 2000 Alex Bau also started to his
soloproductions for labels like Chris Liebing`s “CLR” or the Montreal based label "Default
Recordings". Montreal can be understood as a kind of scale of Alex` DJ-activities too!
Within 3 years he has been booked to Montreal four times, his set from the legendary
night at “Aria” from january 2006 was even released as a mix-cd “live at Aria /
Montreal” so that Alex came back months later to perform on the releaseparty, once
again a night to remember for the Montreal technomovement. At this time Alex was
already booked as the headliner, and its reported by numerous mails and guestbookentries
that it was not a mistake to do so. Maybe also as a small, unconscious “thank
you”, but mainly due to a very inspirational night he spent in Halifax, where he flew
over to Canada for just one night, he declared an EP as the “C.A.N.A.D.A. EP”, which
was released on CLR in late 2007 and received overwhelming feedback from all over the
globe. People desrcibed the tracks “Summer in Moncton” and “Halifax Funk” as
masterpieces of contemporary technomusic which seperates positively from the rest,
mainly dominated by minimal clicks and cuts.
But it`s not only Montreal, where Alex is being booked again and again, there are also
other places, which obviously is a sign that he seems to be a guy who understands
what to do when standing in front of people and trying to bring the party to the max.
Clubs like Frankfurt`s "U60311", where, among other dates, he was part of the closing
night of Chris Liebing`s legendary partyseries “Es ist Freitagaaabend”, Munich`s
"Electric Delicate", Würzburg`s "Airport", or the legendary "Tresor" in Berlin are not only
the trademarks of german technoclubculture, they can also be found on Alex Bau`s
giglist. Japan, Braszil, USA, Canada, Poland, Croatia, Serbia, Holland or the closer
Austria and Switzerland are some of the tourstops on Alex` calender, and no matter
where, all over the places people can hear and feel how interesting, versatile and
powerful techno can be if you understand to combine minimal and straight techno as a
constant up and down. Always everything under control while the party is going wild,
that`s what Alex is always going for. That`s also something what the crowd seemed to
have experienced, so that Alex was voted among the 20 best national DJ`s on the poll
from Germany`s leading Dancemagazine, Raveline, in 2006.
After a short intermezzo as an official artist on the highly acclaimed label „Zenit“, that
has been the platform for acts like Marco Carola, Adam Beyer, The Advent, Gaetano
Parisio and many more, he now puts the focus back again on an own platform after
releasing his album „Credo“ as a sublabel from Zenit, which is now “continued” as his
personal artist label with already highly acclaimed releases like “My bleepy helloween”
or “Bullet in your heart”, minimal tunes go together with peaktime slammers in a way
that appears obvious and logic. This fact and the music on “Credo” attracts a lot of
leading colleagues of Alex like Chris Liebing, Dubfire, Adam Beyer, Stephan Bodzin or
also Charles Siegling aka Technasia, who invited Alex to join the worldfamous Sino-
Label by end of 2008 for releases and also bookingwise. The Feedback on Alex` music
is growing constantly, he turns out to be one the few real technoproducers in 2008 and
his decision to focus on only a few, but very powerful and strong releases on labels like
CLR, Sino or Credo speaks for itself. Techno can do a lot, if you let it do so. That`s the
credo. His credo.
